2012 Summer & FAll Sessions
Book Signing and Lecture Presentaion by Cathryn Lahm, Author/Photographer on her book:
Smithfield Community Association
Peterboro, New York
June 9 and 10, 2012

Each summer, on the second weekend in June, the
Smithfield Community Association and the Town of
Smithfield hold the annual Civil War Weekend. The
event is used to raise money to preserve
Peterboro's buildings and sites.

Peterboro invites everyone to visit and experience
what life was like 140 years ago. After visiting the
soldiers’ camps, one can enjoy music, drama and
storytelling, and period craft demonstrations.
Wander through the Confederated and Union camps
and listen to the stories of the men and women.
Watch them drill for battle. Each afternoon, hear the
sound of cannons booming and muskets cracking.
The smoke of gunpowder will rise as the north and
south face off for a very realistic battle reenactment.

Throughout the weekend the Civil War Heritage
Foundation has rows of tents with military and
civilian portrayals of generals, officers, enlisted
men, politicians, musicians, doctors, nurses, and
children. The Civil War Heritage Foundation (CWHF)
is dedicated to preserving the mid 19th Century
history of our nation by way of first person
impressions, formal and informal talks,
presentations, and encampments.

Ladies of the camps demonstrate the tasks of daily
life in the mid 19th Century. Daughters of the Union
Veterans, Sons of the Union Veterans, and
Revolutionary War Reenactors are among the
groups that set up for the weekend.
